What's In and What's Out for 2017
Out with the old and in with the new! We’ve got 2017’s trends for design that we want to share with you. If you are considering redecorating this spring, keep reading to find out what’s in and what’s out this year.
First we will start with green. Green is definitely IN this year, being that it is Pantone’s color of the year! This color represents a fresh start and revitalization. It is a great way to bring the outdoors inside and can be used as an accent or as the main focus of a room.
Another big IN this year is marble. From countertops to end tables to accent pieces, the possibilities with marble are endless. Even in unexpected places like wall coverings or furniture, marble adds a sleekness to the room, and is extremely versatile when it comes to other design elements.
As much as we love antiques here at Avery Lane, this year, an all antique design motif is OUT. A few pieces from decades past are okay, but it is important to throw in some modern elements, and maybe even some of the trends that are in this year!
Add a little royalty to your decor and bring in some jewel tones, which are 100% IN this year. A great way to transition through the season is to add in jewel toned accents, like pillows. It keeps the design somewhat the same, but just changes the color depending on the season (think oranges for spring and deeper purples for fall). Pillows are also an inexpensive way to change up design elements, without being too drastic.
We’ve become a society that wants everything bigger and better, but this year, oversized furniture is OUT. Huge couches and chairs take up too much room and don’t leave space for functionality. This year try more unique, to-scale pieces, or even customize your furniture to fit exactly into a room.
Our final IN trend of 2017 is nailhead accents. On leather chairs or couches, this special touch adds so much to a room, whether it be in a man cave or a crisp white room. Nail heads make for a unique design element and a trend that we will keep seeing all year long.
