5 Ways To Make Your House A Home

One of the questions I get asked most frequently here at Avery Lane is how I go about making my house feel like a home. I try to apply this same mentality when I decorate the Avery Lane shop so that my customers always feel welcomed and at ease when they shop with us. And clearly, that does the trick!

This month, I’m sharing with you 5 tricks I use in my home AND in my shop to make my house feel like a home. Whether you just moved into your home, or want to make your current home have more warmth and personality, these tips are for you!

Warm Colors, Textures, and Patterns

It goes without saying, but the colors, textures, and patterns you have throughout your home have a huge impact on the “vibe” your home gives. If you include colors that are warmer, such as yellows, oranges, greens, and reds, these colors will give off a more welcoming atmosphere. Distribute colors naturally, with dark colors on the floor, medium colors on the walls, and light colors on the ceiling, so that your home is inviting to your guests. For patterns, traditional rooms look best in refined, smooth textures, and contemporary spaces need more textural interest.

Flowers

Whether real or fake (make sure they at least look real!!), flowers always add a loving touch to any room. I love adding flowers to a center piece on my dining room table, but I also spread flowers throughout the rest of my home as well. Try adding florals next to the kitchen sink, or in the entryway of your home. Flowers make a home feel earthy and natural, just make sure the coloring goes with that of your home decor!

Pillows

Pillows are a GREAT way to add warm color and texture, and also make seating so much more comfortable! Pillows are another great way to affordably switch up the look of your home. Just switch your your pillow covers with the seasons, or whenever you feel like you need a change!

Things With A Story

Make your home all about you! I love adding pieces or artwork from the places that I have travelled, or adding a picture of my girls to a side table. Not only does this add a unique touch of personality to your home, but these pieces make for great conversation starters!

Fill It With Those Who You Love

This may sound corny, but what’s a home if it’s without those who you love? I love spending time with my girls at home, and I always make sure my King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Ringo, feels right at home!
